All three are public, and none of them verifies anything. Going in particular is not a ticket, which is the one that catches people out.

What each action does

  • Follow applies to people and companies. It keeps you up to date with their activity.
  • Upvote applies to products, jobs, grants, bounties, hackathons, accelerators, event calendars, and events. It is a signal of support.
  • Going applies to event calendars, events, and hackathons. It records that you plan to attend.
Select the action again to remove it. Counts may take a moment to update across every surface.

What each action does not mean

A follow is interest, not a professional endorsement. An upvote is support, not evidence that a product is safe or well built. Going records your own intent: it is not a ticket, a registration, an entry guarantee, or an attendance record, and it is never rewritten into attendance after the fact. For events, complete registration on the organizer’s own site when a registration link is provided, and keep the confirmation they send you. Directories move things you already follow down the Recommended list rather than hiding them, so the list keeps showing you organizations and projects you have not seen. Use the Following filter on a directory when you want your own follows back at the top.

Use these signals genuinely

Artificial or coordinated activity makes the signal less useful for everyone reading it. Upvote counts and follower counts describe attention, not quality, so open the underlying page before making a decision.
